FAST (Fluor & SKM Team) is a joint venture between
Fluor Australia and
SKM to develop and
deliver iron ore projects to meet the global market demand forecast for BHP Billiton.
The new joint venture, FAST, will provide programme management of all projects and selected
EPCM (engineering, procurement, construction and management) services.
BHP Billiton Iron Ore's expansion plans to installed capacity of 300 million tonnes per annum
by 2015 represents unprecedented and accelerated expansion in the Pilbara.
The projects within the FAST programme are:
- RGP 5 (Rapid Growth Project 5)
- RGP 6 (Rapid Growth Project 6)
- Quantum 1 and 2
BHP Billiton is the world’s largest diversified resources company with more than 100 operations
in 25 countries.
The original joint venture was formed in 2001 between Fluor Australia and SKM to execute
BHPBIO’s Asset Development Projects (ADP).
It has delivered six major iron ore projects, providing over 100 million tonnes per year of
iron ore production capability.
FAST manages the entire Programme and some EPCM services. The MPD JV (Mining Port Development
Joint Venture) will complete the following two projects under FAST’s management:
- RGP 3 (near completion)
- RGP 4
Fluor Australia and SKM were awarded the WA Engineering Excellence Award in 2004 for Area C and
PACE.
