Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that its joint venture with Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) was awarded a contract by BHP Billiton (LSE: BLT) to execute the next phase of its Rapid Growth Program. The focus of the project will be the continued expansion of BHP Billiton's iron ore operations in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia. Fluor booked approximately $500 million in the company's fourth quarter of 2009. The Fluor SKM Iron Ore Joint Venture's scope includes overall program management activities and engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for specific elements of the mine, port and rail works.

BHP Billiton announces the appointment of Mr Chris Campbell as President of its Iron Ore business, replacing Ian Ashby who will become the CEO of the Western Australia Iron Ore production joint venture with Rio Tinto.
Mr Campbell's appointment is expected to become effective as Mr Ashby's workload in the JV increases, which is expected to occur progressively over the coming months.
In his new role, Mr Campbell will have overall responsibility for the Company's global Iron Ore operations.

Civil and mining services contractors NRW Holdings, in joint venture with Laing O’Rourke and John Holland, have today been awarded a variation by BHP Billiton Iron Ore to their existing contract for the southern section of the rail duplication for the RGP5 Project. The variation is valued at approximately $145 million to the Consortium, with NRW’s additional component worth approximately $105 million. NRW will deploy approximately 170 additional personnel

Perth based unlisted public company Kerman Contracting Limited (Kerman) has been awarded two contracts for BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Rapid Growth Project 5 (RGP5) Expansion Works in the north west of Western Australia.
The combined value of these two projects is $58.0 million with work commencing immediately and for completion by August 2010.
The first contract awarded to Kerman is the design and fabrication of 40 conveyor modules for BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s port expansion at Finucane Island. These modules will allow high level conveyors to carry ore to the new berths in a fully enclosed environment to mitigate dust and noise issues.
