RGP5
Rapid Growth Project 5 - RGP5, is a US$4.8 billion, three-year investment by BHP Billiton Iron Ore, designed to expand the iron ore capacity by 50 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa). RGP5 is expected to deliver first production in the second half of 2011 calendar year. Most of the growth will come from expansion and upgrades at the Yandi and Mining Area C operations, including development of additional crushing, screening and stockpiling facilities.
Other significant infrastructure upgrades include additional shipping berths at the Port Hedland inner harbour (Finucane Island) and substantial duplication to sections of the Newman to Port Hedland rail system. BHP Billiton Iron Ore announced approval of the Rapid Growth Project 5 (RGP5) with a total capital investment of US$4.8 billion (BHP Billiton share). This includes previously approved capital of US$930 million.
